Exposed Brickwork Farmhouse Design

The historic ruins of an old factory dating back to World War II are converted into a farmhouse with exposed brick walls. A young couple owned a warehouse located at Düsseldorf, Germany that was saved miraculously from the World War II bombings. Dusseldorf is the capital of North Rhine-Westphalia, a German state. Dusseldorf situated on the banks of river Rhine has large Japanese community. It is well known internationally as a cultural, business and financial hub in Germany. It ranks sixth in the world and first in Germany for the highest standard of living. Every year millions of people visit Dusseldorf to attend the funfair on the river Rhine.

The young couple who owned the warehouse wanted to retain the building’s heritage while converting the warehouse in to a residence. Architect Bruno Erpicum from the German architecture firm AABE designed the plans for the conversion. Administrative authorities supervised the conversion process due to the historical significance of the building. The architects and interior designers have done wonderful job. The exposed brickwork walls and flagstone roof are retained as they are in the farmhouse design. The wear and tear experienced over the years is highlighted using contrast materials and glossy white furniture. Use of contrasting materials and styles enhances the aesthetics of the house.

The main entrance of the house is covered by the garages. A façade leading to the day patio is made of glass panels. It is a newly constructed addition to the house. The original building is totally secluded from the outside world through glass panels. The interiors of the house are enormous spaces with sparse furniture and without any accessory. Interiors of the house are designed with modern contemporary furniture and lighting. Gloss painted white furniture highlights the the house design with beamed ceilings and rows of pilasters. Large space in between a rows of pilasters is designed as living cum dining area. Exquisite lighting in this area gives a unique ambiance to the space. Kitchen is away from the living area. An enclosed white chamber is designed as bedroom. Bedroom walls, roof and even the cabinets are white and with perfect smooth surfaces. The night patio with zenithal light illuminates bedroom and bathroom. Night patio is created by removing the roof around the bedroom and bathroom. Attached bathroom is again surrounded by the pilasters. Shower and wash basin are built using concrete blocks. Turkish bath is perfect with starry ceiling above. Study and gym open into the garage. The farmhouse built with rustic building materials and decorated with ultra modern glossy white furniture looks mysteriously fascinating.

Kensington House in London is a six floors family home for an international couple built in contemporary style with all the modern day comfort and state of the art technology. British architects and interior designer SHH have designed the interiors of this spacious luxury home. Entire house interiors are designed in creme and off white as per the client’s request. The house in creme and off white interiors looks funky and at the same time very sophisticated. Lower three floors of this large family home contains a large reception room, formal living room, dining room, family room, cinema room and pool room. Entire fourth floor is allocated to master suite and rest of the two floors house remaining five bedrooms.

Main entrance of the house is at the upper ground level. A large entry foyer has a free floating staircase leading upstairs. Principle reception room can be accessed from the foyer. The entry foyer has limestone flooring and creased pearl wallpaper. Matching mirror with silver gilt is next to the main door. A rabbit fur upholstered ottoman and a series of broom lamps in different heights makes the décor perfect. The reception room on the same floor is a large area divided into two separate areas, the formal half and casual half. The formal half of the room is designed with the biggest chandelier, big comfort sofas, two leather chairs and tables. The casual or semi-formal half of the reception room has small chandeliers, low modular seating upholstered in off white velvet, leather upholstered chair and a faux fur pouf. Reception area has beautiful white rugs and cream colored silk curtains matching with the furniture.

The family room is decorated in creams and natural shades. A large mirror on wall reflects far end of the room. Furniture includes a wall unit for TV and storage, modular sofa with silk cushions, coffee table made of half ottoman and half glass, a side table in hourglass shape and a small floor lamp. Floor is fully carpeted with a rug on it. Curtains are made of transparent tea biscuit fabric. The dining room is exclusively designed with Italian table and chairs placed in front of a cross combed plaster wall with a fire place. The remaining walls are covered with alternate strips of circular designed voile and plain silk weave. The main attraction of the room is hanging balls of light crusted with plenty of tiny Swarovski crystals. Different size balls are hung at different levels. The cinema room has 62 inch plasma screen TV fixed into a black suede wall with overhead lights to highlight the wall. Fully carpeted room has Boa sofa, lots of cushions and Dolmen lights. String curtains cover the walls.

All the bedrooms are designed as per the taste and choice of the residents. Color scheme, theme of the room and furniture are selected after consulting the owner of the room. They reflect the choice and personality of the residents. Entire first floor is occupied by the master suite. It is designed luxuriously in off white and creams. Contemporary chandelier made up of Swarovski crystals adds up to the beauty of the suite. Other bedrooms are designed in pink, floral designs, turquoise, with Japanese theme and plain gray. Each and every bedroom has exquisite designer furniture with matching floor coverings and wall and window treatments.

The sandy beaches lined up with palm trees, alang alang huts and quaint flowering trees are also perfect for a long stroll.

Sky Garden house with a beautifully curved roof is snuggled up in a small plot of land surrounded by the neighboring houses. It is caged among solid walls on each side of the plot, unraveling it from the closely placed neighbors. All the levels of this four story building are connected by a spiral staircase. The staircase is built in the center of the house. Well like opening in the center allows light and sea breeze to circulate in the house.
