The island house designed by WRB Architects is located on an island in the Stockholm archipelago, Sweden. This waterfront cottage set among the beautiful natural surroundings is a vacation home for a young family with children. It is a small rustic cottage home half hidden behind the pine trees built on a 150 sq feet area. The site is a natural landscape covered with lush green vegetation, pine trees and a 500 years old oak tree. It is slightly elevated from the waterfront with rocky outcrops.

The Stockholm archipelago, the biggest archipelago in Sweden, is a spectacular fan shaped group of more than 24,000 islands and islets. Only a thousand of them are inhibited. It inspired many artists, authors and poets by its magnificent beauty. Some of them are Aleister Crowley, Ture Nerman, Roland Svensson. The archipelago has a wonderful array of restaurants and holiday homes. During summer it is buzzing with boating and sailing activates. During winters it is ideal for ice skating excursions. The island vacation home featured here is built in rustic cottage style architecture with glass enclosed interiors and outdoor living spaces. Good home design is about creating a safe heaven where family flourishes among safe and secure environment. Is this possible on a tight budget in a highly populated street with closely built small houses? Here is an example of such small house design that is simple and elegant; and efficiently utilizes every inch of the space available. It is built with sturdy but inexpensive building materials and has tasteful interiors. The house is located at Camperdown, a heavily populated Inner West Sydney suburb. Inner West is a working class suburb in Sydney, Australia. Camperdown consists of old warehouses, terraces, modern apartments and some simple small houses. It is close to Sydney CBD and universities. As a result academics and young professionals have shifted here. They have renovated old, simple houses to suit their lifestyle.

The owner of the small house featured here wanted to renovate his house located in a street that is peaceful and quiet, but far from pretty. He wanted to design a house in such a way that it blends well with the neighboring houses in terms of size and shape, yet look distinctive and stylish in the existing streetscape. The architectural firm Cater Williamson accepted the challenge of designing a house within the client’s budget. The house has ground level and upper level. There is a small open area in front of the house. On ground level kitchen is centrally located with high ceilings. There is a home office, kitchen and dining area on the same level. Living area can be approached by stepping down three steps. It opens in a backyard in the rear of the house. The backyard has a covered shade used as laundry and wet area. Bedrooms and play area are upstairs giving privacy for restful sleep. Space is utilized efficiently to accommodate every need of the residents.

Interiors are done in a simple minimalist style. Furniture and rugs define the spaces for home office, dining area and living area. Interiors are mainly done in Rust and Navy Blue color pallet. Red and black colors are used as accent colors. Creatively designed pendant lamps hanging from the high ceiling above dining table illuminate the space. Prudent placement of windows and saw toothed roof lets in abundant natural light. Living room furniture is done in neutral colors with accent pillows. Walls are not covered with plaster. Exposed grey walls have bright red accent wall décor. The house looks stylish and elegant with tastefully designed interiors.

Here are the pictures of a minimalist forest house located at Tellada, Spain. This house is located in thick woods of North Western Spain. The Spanish architectural firm Rosales & Crecente Architect designed the house with a theme of natural harmony. The wooden house design won the award of Juana de Vega. Foundation of Juana de Vega was found in 1872 by the Countess of Espoz y Mina. One of their activities includes the implementation of Master of Landscape Architecture in collaboration with the University of Santiago, Spain.

Tellada house is a small house built for a single family. This single family home is used as a holiday retreat. It is surrounded by the oak, birch and chestnut trees. Same wood is used to build the exteriors of the house. There is a large open space in front of the house. The house consists of an internal courtyard and several decks. Open deck has wooden chairs to relax and enjoy the nature. Outdoor nature merges with the indoor decor.

Main materials used are wood and glass. The color of the exteriors is similar to that of forest during autumn. Exteriors of the house blend perfectly with the surrounding woods. From outside the house looks like a cottage house, but it is built using modern architectural design. Forest house is a superb example of pragmatic and functional house design that blends very well with the natural environment.

The interiors of the house are done using lighter color wood. As a result forest house looks bright and cheerful. Living area has large glass windows that allow natural light and view. Warm colors of natural light illuminate the interiors. There are no walls separating living room, dining room, library and kitchen. Functional cabinets define the space and separate them from each other. The residents have a huge collection of books.

Dining area is adjacent to kitchen. It has a small four seater dining table and chairs. There is a white ceiling lampshade over the dining table. Kitchen is a narrow passage defined by the cabinets. One end of this narrow passage leads outdoors. Another end has open glass shelves for the storage.

Though the site this house is built on is only 1600 square foot, still it looks like a lavish mansion because of the way the rooms and interconnection between rooms have been designed.
