Who wouldn’t want to own a beach house and the few lucky one’s who do are an envied lot. Well, the fact is that not everyone can afford to own a beach house. Beach houses are characteristically raised houses suitable for their shoreline location with wide porches and the main living space at an elevated level. If you are planning to construct your very own beach house, you should now that there are architects who specialise in beach houses. It’s best to contact such an architect because there are certain architectural specifications that need to be followed when constructing beach houses so that the building is compatible with the structure of the terrain. The most obvious design specification is that the beach house should be able to withstand the harsh seaside weather and also possible flooding. During inclement whether, the coastline is the first to bear the brunt of the fury of nature.
Windows are an important part of a beach house. As poets wax eloquent about eyes being the windows to the world, so it is with windows in a beach house which offer the spectacular views of the sea, blue skies and golden sands.
Speaking of designers who specialize in beach houses, it would be a travesty not to mention the name of Bernardes Jacobsen who has constructed an exquisitely beautiful beach house in São Paulo. Constructed high on a verdant hill, overlooking the famous beach of Guaruja, Bernardes Jacobsen’s architectural masterpiece known as “Guaruja House” has been constructed using only five pillars.
When constructing this beachfront paradise, Bernardes Jacobsen faced a major challenge with the sloping terrain which he managed to overcome by building an artificial 18m deck as the first foundation. The second challenge faced by Bernardes Jacobsen was the restricted space since the land was locked on a narrow lot between two homes. So Bernardes had to make the most of this restricted space which is where his architectural expertise came to the fore. Split into three levels, Bernardes Jacobsen’s beach house is characterized by wide open spaces, airy rooms with an abundance of sunlight, and effective use of catwalks to promote
circulation.
Bernardes Jacobsen’s beach house is a truly modern and minimalist version of the traditional beach house. By skilfully blending glass and wood, he has made sure there is a lot of natural lighting and the house is in harmony with the breathtakingly beautiful surroundings. The view is truly spectacular and Bernardes Jacobsen was very particular that the construction did not disturb the natural beauty of the terrain.
The distinguishing feature of the interiors of this pavilion style beach house is a unique downward design; the entry foyer is on the second level with two ensuite bedrooms and the lower level constitutes the kitchen, the service area, staff quarters, a gym, a steam bath and four bedrooms. A sapphire blue pool overlooks the azure waters of the ocean in the horizon beyond a lush canopy of trees.
