If you don’t suffer from a fear of heights and love magnificent views, then this apartment will steal your heart. Perched on the dizzyingly high 61st floor, this apartment is located in the sought after uptown area of Manhattan, New York. The apartment has been designed in such a manner so that the historic Central Park is visible from every room. This incredibly creative design is the brainchild of Stefan Boublil, the creative director of the very aptly named The Apartment Creative Agencies. Stefan Boublil belongs to the talented tribe of designers who are adept in making innovative use of urban spaces and giving them a spacious feel almost akin to a country home. This is an uphill task in the upscale neighbourhoods of big cities where the common scenario is that the space is at a premium. Designing for a limited space and giving the impression of spaciousness requires a high degree of creativity and Stefan Boublil obviously has the gift. The moment you enter this apartment, you are overwhelmed by the compelling design elements of the living spaces which are warm, inviting and also soothing. The soothing color palettes of the decor create a living space which is contemporary and chic. This contemporary look is characterized by clean lines and smooth surfaces sans intricate details which does not give a cold or sterile look but instead imparts a sophisticated and comfortable feel.
The magnificent views from every room is not the only distinguishing feature of this apartment and there are many other innovative touches such as a secret door leading to a solo library, a wraparound sofa and distributed sound all over the house which make it an apartment like no other. Other very innovative features are the communal living spaces that have been provided between the master suites and the children’s rooms which are hidden by the secret door leading to the library with the intention of providing a buffer of sight and sound. The dramatic views from every window are in striking contrast against the light soothing colors of the apartment. Stefan Boublil has taken his inspiration from the 80’s which was when the skyscraper was constructed. The kitchen and the dining area have been done up in waxed concrete which is a study in contrast from the rest of the apartment which is bathed in bleached pine and light colors. The decorative concrete effect such as waxed concrete is achieved by using many kinds of materials which may be applied during the pouring process or after curing the concrete. The various kinds of decorative concrete include stamped concrete, acid staining, decorative overlays, polished concrete, concrete countertops, vertical overlays among many more. Thus a utilitarian construction material undergoes an innovative transformation which can be customized to blend with any decor or color
